Q. What information do I need to provide to get a fast, accurate quote?
A. The more detailed the data that is supplied, the faster and more competitively we can quote. We firmly abide by the "if in doubt - ask" principle. Ideally we ask for the following:
Full RS274x Gerber data comprising every 'layer' required to manufacture and supply the PCB with descriptive exported 'read me' file. If no silkscreen identification is required to the finished PCB, please issue a .pdf file (or similar) depicting the component locations, orientations, and relevant assembly notes.
A comprehensive bill of materials (BOM) itemising:
1. Component description (to include rating value and tolerance where applicable).
2. Component location to the PCB.
3. Free issue items (if and where applicable).
4. Component supplier (preferred or stipulated).
5. Suitable alternatives (if and where applicable).
6. Farnell and/or RS part numbers will ensure accurate component identification for cross referral which will aid fast and efficient quoting.
Any other construction information, i.e. details of any mechanical assembly, fabrication information for enclosures, wiring or looming, artwork, programming and testing requirements.

What size contracts can smt handle?
At smt we handle contracts that range from a few dozen prototypes to medium volume production runs. Our two i-PULSE pick and place machines both offer throughput rates of up to 12,500 components per hour. As a result, we can offer competitive, high quality solutions for a wide range of medium volume production runs, and deliver a host of commercial advantages over offshore assembly. |
