RoHS compliance relates to the European Union's directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. This directive restricts the content of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls & Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers within components.
By use of an ongoing structured plan smt developments have taken steps to allow our customers to convert their products to becoming RoHS compliant with ease.
At the beginning of 2005, smt developments initiated the procedure of identifying all RoHS compliant & non-RoHS compliant stock held. As from that date smt made the decision to only purchase RoHS compliant parts if available. All purchases since the start of 2005 onwards have been labelled and controlled accordingly. Our computerised stock systems were totally revised to accommodate the segregation and control of stock.
smt also converted to using RoHS compliant pcbs. We are experienced with all non-lead finishes including Hard Gold, Nickel Gold, Silver, Immersion Tin and organic finishes and can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each finishes' properties with customers.
Our automated selective soldering process can provide efficient through hole soldering whilst utilising a RoHS compliant Tin/Silver/Copper (SnAgCu) alloy. This provides a strong, high quality RoHS compliant solder joint to our conventional insertion process.
smt finished testing appropriate lead free solder paste and wire in September 2005. Our five zone convection oven has been successfully re-calibrated to allow for the higher re-flow temperatures, which completed our conversion allowing us to be able to process both fully RoHS and non-RoHS compliant boards through our production line.
